Lessons Learned from Ignite

I think is clear where Microsoft is heading Cloud, Cloud, Cloud,…… I think you get the idea. If you are asking yourself is it bad or good ? I would rephrase that question for what applications should I start moving to the cloud ? I can tell you the first things you need to look at is Office365. If you are still hosting Exchange in you SMB Office365 is no brainier. However, before you do that you may really but really start setting up Active Directory Azure http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/articles/active-directory-whatis/

With Office 365 you get an  OneDrive  subscription. You will be able to put all the employees personal and share drives in the cloud. But what makes this offer more appealing now is that Microsoft gives you unlimited  storage space for the same price http://www.techrepublic.com/article/the-sky-is-now-the-limit-for-office-365-onedrive-cloud-storage/

Now if you are really thinking of moving SQL virtual machines to the cloud think again. Microsoft is offering SQL Azure that means Platform As A Service or PAAS. This means that will spin up an instance of SQL server but you don’t need to maintain, patch and reboot any VM, this means one less thing to worry about it.
